David Sowerby, CFA
Managing Director, Portfolio Manager
Mr. Sowerby joined Ancora in 2017 and currently serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. David serves as a portfolio manager for both institutional and individual accounts and is a co-manager of the firm’s Dividend Value Equity strategy and mutual fund. Prior to joining Ancora, David was most recently a Portfolio Manager at Loomis, Sayles & Company, where he worked since 1998 and held multiple senior positions. At Loomis, David worked directly with institutional clients on asset allocation strategies and multi-product portfolios. He began his industry career in 1986, providing investment strategy as an Economist for Comerica Bank.
Mr. Sowerby is the Investment Committee Chair for the City of Detroit General Employee’s Retirement System. He also serves as an Investment Committee Member for the Wayne State University Endowment and a Director for the State of Michigan Chamber of Commerce. David previously served 10 years as Chairman on the Investment Advisory Committee for the State of Michigan’s $60B pension fund under three governors and is a Vice Chair on the Investment Committee for Beaumont Hospitals. He appears as a contributor on numerous media outlets and at various investment conferences where he provides his views on the investment environment. David earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Economics from Wayne State University and was the 2002 and 2007 recipient of Wayne State University’s Distinguished Corporate Citizen award. He was also in the inaugural class of the Crain’s Detroit Business 40 Under 40 awards. He holds a Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a FINRA registered representative (BrokerCheck).
