When you begin working with Ancora Private Wealth, your wealth advisor will introduce your dedicated Ancora team members, including your financial planner and portfolio manager, and guide you through the onboarding process. Because no two financial lives are the same, your wealth planning team works together to build a plan that is both comprehensive and very personalized. While our team utilizes advanced planning software tools and analytical frameworks, the foundation of our work is conversation. We want to understand where you are today, where you want to go and how your financial resources can best support your goals.
Understanding Your Financial Life
The first stage of our wealth planning process focuses on gaining a thorough understanding of your financial life. We know this is deeply personal and adjust our approach based on your preferences—some clients join us in-person for a discovery meeting while others prefer to complete a questionnaire and provide their documents in advance for our review. These conversations can also be held virtually or over the phone. We want to ensure this process is as accessible, comfortable and productive as possible.
During this stage, we gather details such as income, spending, savings, investment accounts, insurance coverage, estate planning documents and non-liquid assets such as real estate or business interests. For business owners, executives or households with more complex financial situations, we’ll discuss additional details like structures, compensation arrangements and succession considerations. Your wealth advisor and financial planner will work in tandem to simplify this process for you—this is one of the most valuable stages of the process, as accurate and complete data allows us to create recommendations that are as precise and actionable as possible.
Also during this stage, the wealth planning team will assist with your onboarding onto the My Ancora client portal powered by eMoney Advisor. The client portal allows you to link your internal and external accounts in one location and store important financial documents, which can give you and your wealth team live insights into your balance sheet and net worth. For many, this may be their first time having a comprehensive dashboard of their family’s wealth.
Constructing Your Plan
As the information gathering stage concludes, your financial planner begins constructing your plan using our goal-based planning software. This is where the pieces of your financial life come together in a structured planning framework; your planner models your current trajectory, aligns it with your long-term goals and identifies strategies designed to strengthen your financial position. This framework, however, is only a starting point. The most critical step occurs during the plan presentation, when you and your Ancora team members come together to refine your financial plan in real time.
The plan presentation is a collaborative discussion, not a one-sided review. Your financial planner will utilize live modeling tools to refine goals, clarify our assumptions and ensure the plan analysis accurately reflects your priorities. During this meeting, we’ll confirm various inputs such as income, projected spending, savings rates, retirement timing and investment assumptions. Adjustments are made in real time, allowing you to see how different decisions may affect long-term outcomes.
A central focus during this meeting is reaffirming our understanding of your goals and how you want to prioritize them. Together, we explore retirement planning, education funding, healthcare considerations, travel aspirations, housing decisions, charitable giving and family support. For couples, we are especially intentional in addressing both shared and individual goals, recognizing that each person may have unique priorities, risk tolerance and legacy intentions.
When discussing legacy and estate planning, your team will want to understand how you want your wealth to impact any children, heirs, charitable organizations or business partners. We’ll evaluate lifetime gifting strategies, asset titling and aligning beneficiary designations to reflect your wishes. For business owners, this may include succession planning strategies and buy/sell agreements to protect and transition ownership interests. We will help you envision how your estate may flow with the goal of ensuring that your legacy is preserved according to your intentions.
Your wealth advisor and portfolio manager will weigh in on your investment strategy during the plan presentation as well to align your investment allocation in support of the goals and timelines defined in your plan. This coordination helps ensure that planning recommendations and portfolio strategy operate together cohesively rather than independently.
Implementation and Ongoing Review
After the plan presentation, your financial planner will outline actionable next steps for implementation. Your role is to review and approve actions, provide any additional information as needed and engage with any outside professionals, such as your attorneys or accountants, if recommended. Your Ancora team members will then coordinate implementation, with your financial planner, wealth advisor and portfolio manager working together to execute the various elements as defined in the plan. Other Ancora professionals may be consulted on topics such as risk management and insurance coverages.
Now, you’re through the heavy-lifting, but wealth planning at Ancora is an ongoing partnership and your financial plan is a living guidebook. Life changes, markets fluctuate and goals evolve over time. We maintain regular check-ins to update assumptions, evaluate risks, review progress and ensure the plan continues to reflect your priorities. This ongoing engagement keeps your plan relevant and responsive to both anticipated and unforeseen events.
